Probably the finest spirit produced in the Dominican Republic, it's matured for up to eight years in Bourbon casks before being transferred to first fill Sherry casks for up to another six years. Breaking that wax seal and pulling the heavy stopper, you'll discover freshly ground coffee, the orange peel and cinnamon spiced chocolate sold in the markets of Oaxaca, more dried fruit than a Christmas cake, mashed banana, tropical fruit, vanilla toffee, red summer berries, roasted plantain, and leathery tobacco. Awarded 93 points by both Wine Enthusiast and the Ultimate Spirits Competition, and a Gold Medal by the Global Rum Masters, Brugal 1888 makes an excellent postprandial sipper, allowing the rum to warm gently in your hand.
